WILDLAND/URBAN INTERFACE PLAN

After months of planning and efforts by many agencies and individuals, the Sonoita Elgin Community Wildfire Protection Plan is complete. The plan was created by the Sonoita-Elgin Firewise Team which was formed by several agencies and many public community members, with the Sonoita-Elgin Fire Department acting as the common point of contact. The plan includes the communities of Sonoita, Elgin and Canelo. The boundaries also encompass the surrounding populated areas. The plan reached its final draft stage in February 2007 and is currently at the State level for final signature.

This plan adds the communities listed to the existing Patagonia plan, making the populated areas of eastern Santa Cruz County and County active in Wildland Urban Interface preventive fire issues.

A full copy of the Plan is available for review at the Sonoita-Elgin Fire Station, 3173 N. HWY 83, Sonoita, Az. 85637.
